2019 Periodic Review Shoreline Master Program (SMP)
The City of Lake Forest Park is undertaking a periodic review of its Shoreline Master Program (SMP), as required by the Washington State Shoreline Management Act (SMA), RCW 90.58.080(4). The SMA requires each SMP be reviewed and revised, if needed, on an eight-year schedule established by the Legislature. The review ensures the SMP stays current with changes in laws and rules, remains consistent with other Lake Forest Park plans and regulations, and is responsive to changed circumstances, new information and improved data.
NOTICE OF COMMENT PERIOD AND PUBLIC HEARING
Shoreline Master Program Update Public Hearing 6:00 p.m., October 8, 2019
The City of Lake Forest Park and the Washington State Department of Ecology are accepting comments on a periodic review of Lake Forest Park’s Shoreline Master Program (SMP) under RCW 90.58.080(4). The City of Lake Forest Park has elected to use the optional joint review process to combine the local and Ecology comment periods, as allowed under WAC 173-26-104.
The City of Lake Forest Park has prepared draft SMP amendments to keep the SMP current with changes in state law, changes in city plans and regulations, and other changed local circumstances. These amendments were developed by the City to comply with WAC 173-26-090, which requires all local governments to review their SMPs on an eight-year schedule set in state law, and revise it if necessary.
Public comment will be accepted on the proposal from September 24, 2019 to October 24, 2019 at 5:00 P.M. All comments received by the City of Lake Forest Park will be forwarded to the Department of Ecology.

SMP Review and Update Materials:
Shoreline Management Act
The Shoreline Management Act (SMA) governs the use and development of Washington’s shorelines to achieve responsible shoreline use and development, environmental protection, and public access. Local shoreline master programs regulate the use and development of shorelines, and are tailored to each community, but they also must be adopted by the Department of Ecology.
2013 Shoreline Master Program
The Lake Forest Park Shoreline Master Program (LFP-SMP) was adopted by the City Council with the approval of Ordinance #1042 on May 24, 2013. The Lake Forest Park Shoreline Master Program (LFP-SMP) is a hybrid policy document incorporating broad policies and detailed regulatory provisions. The policies and regulations of the Shoreline Master Program apply within 200 feet of the Lake Washington shoreline. The goal of the Shoreline Master Program is to ensure no net loss of ecological functions in the shoreline areas.
