DEPARTMENT UPDATES- Help Shape Lake Forest Park's Climate Future: Take the Survey!
Help Shape Lake Forest Park’s Climate Future: Take the Survey! Lake Forest Park is planning for a more resilient future, and we need your input! Climate change affects our environment, homes, and the local economy - and your voice can help shape the solutions.
Whether you’re a resident, business owner, student, or part of a local organization, we want to hear from you! Share your experiences, concerns, and ideas to help shape policies that support our community by taking the Climate Element Community Survey. The City of Lake Forest Park is developing a Climate Element to build resilience against climate impacts and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within the community. This new Climate Element will be integrated into the City’s Comprehensive Plan, serving as the framework to achieve Lake Forest Park’s vision for the future. Your input is invaluable. Responses are anonymous. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete (or as much time as you need). For more information about the Climate Element project, please visit our website. The survey is available in both English and Spanish and closes on April 10. Take the survey in English Responda la encuesta en español Questions? Email mhofman@cityoflfp.gov.

Public Works Project Updates
The Public Works Department has some large projects on the horizon that will make our roads safer, improve our sewer infrastructure, and create more salmon spawning habitat. Roundabout Project The City is building a roundabout on Ballinger Way NE at the intersection of 40th Place NE and NE 184th Street. The project will include a single-lane roundabout, new sidewalks and shared use pathways, four new pedestrian crossings with refuge islands, and improved street lighting.
Looking towards the future with safety, efficiency, and the environment in mind, this project will allow our community to grow mindfully while also providing infrastructure that supports non-vehicular travel along the corridor. Construction is expected to take place from late 2025 to early 2027. Learn more about the roundabout project on our website.

Lift Station and Sewer Improvements Project The City owns and operates two lift stations, both of which are located on Beach Drive NE. While they remain operable, they are well past their service life. These lift stations connect to a sewer main that runs along the edge of Lake Washington, a configuration that does not meet current environmental standards.
The City will be replacing these two lift stations with one and will be relocating the sewer main into the Beach Drive NE right-of-way. This project is still in the early stages of design. Construction is expected to take place in 2026. L90 and L100 Culvert Replacement Projects There are two adjacent culverts along Lyon Creek near the intersection of Ballinger Way NE and 35th Avenue NE that have been identified as fish-passage barriers. By removing fish-passage barriers like these and others, the City can increase the area of salmon spawning habitat in our creeks.
The L90 culvert carries Lyon Creek under NE 185th Street and is owned by the City. The L100 culvert carries Lyon Creek under Ballinger Way NE and is owned by WSDOT. The City and WSDOT are working together to replace these culverts. WSDOT’s culvert replacement will take place first, during the second half of 2025. The City’s culvert replacement will happen a year later during the second half of 2026.

Another Survey?! Yes! Lake Forest Park is developing a Climate Element to include in the newly updated Comprehensive Plan. This is a policy document that will be paired with the Climate Action Plan and act as guidance for future actions by the City.
You are encouraged to fill out the survey to be sure that the Climate Element reflects the needs and concerns of residents. It is intended to collect concerns and ideas on climate change. This is the first of several opportunities to be heard on the issues of climate. The survey is available on the City website and closes April 10. In addition, there will be an open house and opportunities to provide comments to City Council before the Comprehensive Plan Climate Element is adopted. Don't miss your chance to make a difference!

Go Native! Plant Native, Flowering Plants to Attract Pollinators Attract pollinators with native plants. Beneficial insects contribute to a healthy and biodiverse ecosystem. To provide for their wellbeing, think of your yard as native habitat. Incorporate flowering plants into your landscape and vegetable garden for year round bloom. Opt for native plants, as they are often more disease-resistant and require less maintenance and water.
How can you tell if a plant is native or noxious, or a species is beneficial or invasive? What should you do if unwelcome invaders show up and take over? There are many free resources, native plant sales, and fun plant identifier apps to guide you. Start here:
