Ballinger Way NE Roundabout Project

Project Overview

The City of Lake Forest Park will be constructing a roundabout on Ballinger Way NE at the intersection of SR-104, 40th Place NE, and NE 184th Street. Construction will begin in the first half of 2025. This new roundabout will include a single-lane roundabout, new sidewalks, shared-use pathways, four pedestrian crossings with refuge islands, and improved street lighting.

With a focus on safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability, this project will allow our community to grow mindfully while also improving air quality and providing the essential infrastructure needed to promote non-vehicular travel along the SR-104 corridor.

What to Expect

Construction is anticipated to begin in the first half of 2026 and be completed end of 2027. Throughout the construction period, work will alternately occur on the northbound and southbound sections of SR-104, resulting in reduced traffic lanes managed by a flagger.

Timing for all closures and partial closures is yet to be determined. Stay tuned for posted notices and updates on our website during the construction period.

The need for safety improvements at this intersection was first documented in the City’s 2017 Safe Highways Planning Context Report, with the proposal to construct a roundabout introduced in the 2018 Safe Highways Report. Between 2015 and 2018, the report noted thirteen collisions, and since its publication, additional collisions, including near misses, have continued to occur. This project aims to enhance safety at the intersection of SR 104, 40th Place NE, and NE 184th Street while also improving efficiency along the broader SR 104 corridor.
