Public Invited to Weigh In on Police and Public Safety Lake Forest Park residents are encouraged to attend a City Council meeting on Thursday, July 10 at 7 p.m. at City Hall (17425 Ballinger Way NE) to learn more and share input on a proposed temporary levy for police and public safety.
At the meeting, the Council will vote on whether to place the measure on the November 2025 general election ballot. Community voices are an essential part of the decision-making process, and this meeting is a key opportunity to get involved. If the measure is ultimately approved by voters, levy funding would help maintain essential public safety services, including: - Police staffing and training
- Safety equipment
- 911 dispatch and jail services
- Mental health mobile crisis response
A 2024 community survey identified public safety—and maintaining a strong, effective police department—as residents’ highest priority. A temporary levy would allow Lake Forest Park to continue delivering the level of service residents expect. “This is the most important public service we provide,” said Mayor Tom French. “Council has met several times to explore funding options that align with the community’s values. We are committed to protecting the services our residents depend on.” The City remains focused on transparency and ongoing community collaboration as it addresses budget challenges. Learn more about the proposal and additional opportunities to engage at www.cityoflfp.gov/704/Discussing-Budget-Challenges.

Teens Invited to Explore Law Enforcement Careers Through Local Police Explorer Program
The King County Sheriff’s Office and Lake Forest Park Police Department are inviting teens and young adults to take their first step into the world of law enforcement through the Law Enforcement Explorer Program.
Open to individuals ages 14 to 21, the Explorer Program offers participants the chance to gain hands-on experience in policing, develop leadership skills, and serve their communities. Explorers receive training in areas like emergency vehicle operations, case law, and physical fitness, while also participating in public events such as National Night Out, Día de los Muertos, and Shop with a Cop. While many participants are considering a future in law enforcement, a career in the field is not required to join. The program is open year-round and encourages youth who are curious about the criminal justice system or eager to make a positive impact to apply.
