Lake Forest Park Continues Budget Conversations

with Community

Like many cities across the region, Lake Forest Park is experiencing a growing gap between the cost of providing essential services and the revenue available to fund them. Despite making significant reductions to fleet maintenance and other operational expenses—nearly $500,000 in total—a substantial annual deficit remains.

This financial challenge comes at a time when residents have clearly shared what matters most in the City’s community survey: safe neighborhoods supported by a strong police department, clean and accessible parks and trails, safe sidewalks near schools, and resources like a grant writer to help stretch local tax dollars.

To close the budget gap while continuing to invest in these priorities, the City Council is weighing several options. Among them is the possibility of a temporary levy to support public safety and parks.

As part of its commitment to transparency, the City has used its regular public meetings to share information about the budget and invite community feedback. These conversations will continue in the months ahead, with more opportunities for residents to stay informed and engaged as decisions take shape.

For more information and resources, visit the City's website.

Teens Invited to Explore Law Enforcement Careers Through Local Police Explorer Program

The King County Sheriff’s Office and Lake Forest Park Police Department are inviting teens and young adults to take their first step into the world of law enforcement through the Law Enforcement Explorer Program.

Open to individuals ages 14 to 21, the Explorer Program offers participants the chance to gain hands-on experience in policing, develop leadership skills, and serve their communities. Explorers receive training in areas like emergency vehicle operations, case law, and physical fitness, while also participating in public events such as National Night Out, Día de los Muertos, and Shop with a Cop. While many participants are considering a future in law enforcement, a career in the field is not required to join. The program is open year-round and encourages youth who are curious about the criminal justice system or eager to make a positive impact to apply.

Public Hearing Scheduled on Drafted Middle Housing and ADU Code Amendments

The City of Lake Forest Park continues to review draft amendments to the Lake Forest Park Municipal Code (LFPMC) pertaining to middle housing and accessory dwelling unit legislation. A noticed public hearing will seek feedback on these amendments, which are intended to govern middle housing types required for a Tier 3 city and accessory dwelling units within the city.

The public hearing will be conducted during the City Council’s regular meeting on Thursday, June 12, 2025. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m., and the public hearing will commence shortly thereafter. It will be held in the Council Chambers, located upstairs at Lake Forest Park City Hall, 17425 Ballinger Way NE in Lake Forest Park.

Written and verbal testimony will be accepted during the public hearing. Additional information can be found on the City’s website.

Water Smart:

Let Your Lawn Goes Brown

Practice smart watering and let your lawn go for the gold. The right amount of water leads to healthy, beautiful growth; too much or too little can stress plants and make them targets for pests and disease. Our region is known for the damp and moss, but it has dry summers, often with little rain. This summer, take a vacation from mowing and let your lawn go dormant golden brown. It will green up again when the skies turn gray.
