Help Shape Lake Forest Park’s Climate Future:

Stay Tuned for an Upcoming Survey!

The City of Lake Forest Park is developing a Climate Element to help build resilience to climate impacts and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within the Lake Forest Part community. This new Climate Element will be integrated into the City’s Comprehensive Plan, which serves as the guiding framework to achieve Lake Forest Park’s vision for the future.

Learn more about the project here: 2025 Comprehensive Plan Climate Element.

Throughout this project, we hope to hear from the Lake Forest Park community to hear their thoughts, concerns, and ideas. We will be sharing a survey (March 2025), public open house (May 2025), and comment period (summer 2025). We will continually update this page with information about engagement opportunities, or you can sign up for email updates here: stay in touch.

Don't Forget about your community

Volunteers Needed for Boards, Commissions, and Committees

Would you like to help the LFP community by volunteering? If so, there are currently several vacancies on the City’s advisory bodies!

If you would like to apply for any of these openings, please complete the online application.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission provides recommendations to the Mayor and City Council for changes and updates to the Comprehensive Plan, zoning code, and land use policies. As citizen representatives, commissioners recommend programs and policies according to the needs and values of the community. The Planning Commission is required by law, and is governed by state statute and city ordinance.

The Planning Commission meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Meetings are hybrid – on Zoom and in-person at City Hall. Commissioners must live within or own property within the city limits of Lake Forest Park.

Terms are for three years. Please email Community Development Director Mark Hofman with questions.

Tree Board

The Tree Board provides advice to the City Council on policy and regulatory issues involving trees, provides outreach and education to the community on tree-related issues, and organizes and facilitates public events involving trees.

The Tree Board meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Meetings are hybrid—on Zoom and in-person at City Hall. Board members must live within or own property within the city limits of Lake Forest Park.

Terms are for three years. Please email Assistant Planner Elizabeth Talavera with questions.

Parks & Recreation Advisory Board

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board’s primary responsibilities are to advise to City Council and Mayor on:

  • Park Master Plan Development
  • Recreation Program Evaluation and Development
  • Park Comprehensive Planning

The City of Lake Forest Park Mayor and Council have established improving public waterfront access as a high priority. The City acquired 2 parcels, totaling 1.91 acres, on the shores of Lake Washington. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is now helping shape the vision of this project that was identified as a high priority in the City’s Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails (PROST) plan. As of now, the City lacks public water access, and this project aims to provide the community with active water recreation opportunities in a beautiful area. Be sure to view the project website for more information on the project, sign up to receive email updates, and go on a virtual tour of the park!

The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Meetings are hybrid – on Zoom and in-person at City Hall.

Terms are for three years and there are two alternate positions currently vacant.

Please email Community Programs Planner Cory Mattson with questions.

Northshore Emergency Management Coalition (NEMCo) Prepares for a Year of Community Training Activities

NEMCo, dedicated to educating the Northshore public about emergency preparedness, is excited to announce a wide range of community training opportunities for 2025. Our neighbors in Lake Forest Park and Kenmore (and others are welcome too!) are invited to participate in these informative workshops. Topics will include general preparedness, first aid, proper utility shutdowns, go-bags, radios, and hands-on fire extinguisher practice. More details about these and other classes will be posted on our homepage at www.NorthshoreEMC.com once dates are confirmed.

The Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) team will focus on emergency communications by offering mini-trainings during their monthly meetings on the fourth Wednesday evening, as well as at dedicated licensing workshops. Topics will include developing basic ham radio skills, selecting your first radio and accessories, programming your radio, Winlink messaging practice, and other exercises for both beginner and more experienced operators (technical and general license levels).

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will offer both 3-day and 7-week options for the CERT Basic courses. These courses will prepare community members in disaster medical operations, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and other disaster response skills. CERT will also offer a variety of additional topics at their monthly meetings for members and the public.

NEMCo looks forward to training our communities in emergency preparedness so they can take care of themselves, their families, and their neighbors!

Spring showers

Soaking Up Spring Showers

When rain falls on impervious surfaces such as rooftops, roads, parking lots, and driveways, stormwater runoff is created. Stormwater runoff picks up and carries pollution such as fertilizer, pesticides, sediment, oil, bacteria, and toxic chemicals into our streams and salmon-spawning creeks.

Soil is a natural sponge. It soaks water into the ground and naturally filters out pollution. Add in a rain garden and this natural sponge can soak up even more rainwater, transforming stormwater from a destructive carrier of pollution into a source of sustenance for plant and wildlife habitats. By reducing stormwater runoff through bioretention, rain gardens can be a valuable tool to help protect our watersheds.

While an individual rain garden may seem like a small thing, collectively they produce substantial neighborhood and community environmental benefits. By capturing runoff in shallow depressions and letting it soak into the ground, rain gardens also help recharge stores of groundwater in aquifers.

If you’re interested in finding out more about rain gardens you can stop by City Hall to pick up a Rain Garden Handbook.
